Hidden braces

Lingual (incognito) braces

Brackets bonded to the back surfaces of the teeth, where nobody facing you can see them.

Lingual (incognito) braces explained

What if your brace faced the other way? That is the idea behind lingual treatment. The brackets and wire attach to the tongue side of your teeth instead of the front, so from the outside your smile looks untouched.

People choose this route when they want the full precision of a fixed appliance and absolute discretion. It appeals to adults who speak to clients, present or perform, or who simply prefer to keep treatment to themselves.

Placing braces behind the teeth takes particular skill. Among our team, Dr Devaki Patel and Dr Ahmed Omran both provide lingual treatment, including WIN lingual braces. Each appliance is made to fit the inner shape of your teeth for comfort and accuracy.

Made to measure

Brackets shaped to the inner surface of each of your teeth.

Step by step

How treatment unfolds

A Specialist Orthodontist oversees each stage, from the first scan to your retainers.

  1. 1

    Suitability check

We examine your teeth and take scans so the lab can make your appliance.

  2. 2

    Fitting and reviews

The hidden brace is bonded in place, then adjusted at planned visits.

  3. 3

    Finish and retain

Brackets come off and retainers keep the new alignment steady.

Your questions

Questions we are often asked

Does talking feel different?

Your tongue needs a little time to get used to the brackets, and some people have a mild lisp at first. For most, speech is back to normal within a couple of weeks.

Can anyone have lingual braces?

Many bites can be treated this way, though not every one. Your orthodontist will tell you honestly at the consultation whether it suits you.

Is treatment longer than with front braces?

Usually not by much. Most cases take roughly one to two years, depending on the corrections needed.
